Had the opportunity to deck out this Surly Disc Trucker.
It came in as as bike, it leaves as a touring machine with Tubus racks front and rear, SKS Longboard fenders, a Pletscher double leg kickstand hiding back there, and our handbuilt Alfine Generator wheel.
Right now it is ably making due with the Planet Bike Blaze that is part of our ongoing generator wheel system package deal. But, we have ordered the Busch & Muller Luxus U for it, which we are pretty excited to have in stock once they are available. Soon. Soon…
Steve is getting his photos uploaded and sorted from NAHBS, will try and give a little write up yet this week.
A lot of great stuff hiding in those booths!

No matter how winter might choose to complain, there is no denying that spring is getting ready to sproing. Marching lions turn into lazing lambs and all that kind of stuff. As the calendar turns to bike season proper there are lots of cool things going on already and more to follow. This weekend there is the North American Handmade Bicycle Show in Denver, CO.

Steve is heading out this evening via the ironhorse and in addition to browsing around in pursuit of the finest in unnecessary bike themed beer bottle openers will be lending a hand at the new and exciting BreadWinner booth. Due to travel:
the shop will be closing early today, about 4:00!
Normal winter hours resume tomorrow 10-5:30
You don’t have to go all the way to Denver to see cool bike stuff, either. Next Tuesday at 6:30 night BIC is hosting their super spring shop expo and we will be there showing off the latest and greatest in bicycle themed novelty beer bottle openers. Just kidding, but we will be there! All the details are on that link, page 6 of the newsletter.
Not to be left out Think Bicycles has a presentation next Wednesday at the ICPL regarding the redesign of the Burlington St bridge here in Iowa City. This is an important advocacy opportunity to make our community more livable, please join us in lending your support.
More to follow but too much to list here, just get ready to get active – spring is coming!

Winter got you feeling crusty? Do not despair -spring time doth approacheth!
We are less than a month from springing the clocks forward, it is time to push aside the darkness and start thinking shiny.
These new Velo Orange front and rear Campeur racks are pretty shiny. Did you know that Campeur means camper? Yup.
The 2013 MASI road bikes have arrived and what their black components lack in the shiny they more than make up for in bold colors, styling and the always enjoyable fun to ride department.
Another sure sign of spring, the Local Foods Connection Iowa City area CSA guide is here. Free as sunshine, just like the latest issue of Urban Velo.
So come on in and pick up some reading material, and be sure you and your bike are ready to shine when that sun does.

Last night Steve dropped a bike donation bike at the most civilized place in Iowa City, or the Iowa City Bike Library as it is also known.
It has been a while since we have thrown some sweet e-lovin’ out to our partners in all things bicycle and that place is looking so good I could not resist shooting some pics of the organized chaos of a volunteer run community bike program.
This lineup of forks was the first thing to catch the eye, and who does not have a 5 gallon bucket (or 7) full of stems?
Unruly drop handlebars wriggle in there somehow, don’t imagine they come out any easier.
Saddle pillars are a bit easier to sort and store.
More forks and enough fenders to roof a house.
The back room will make the neat freak tremble!
Cable housing for any paint scheme or personality? They have it.
Always plenty to see at the Bike Library, and plenty to do, too. So check out the many programs they offer and are involved in, and lend a hand or a bike or even just a part if you have something pretty. And Respect the bike, as they say!
