August 2012

The Xtracycle has been hard at work lately.

Recycling the recycle-ables.

Salvaging the metals.

And just enjoying the occasional longer ride out and about to see what’s new. Like this new bike rack and FixIt bike repair stand at the New Pi Coop in Coralville. Good work!

We bike shop folk are normal people just like you. We have dreams. Sometimes they are about bike riding, sometimes about falling, and sometimes they are work related.  Did we order the 5 speed freewheel? Did we lock the door? Why won’t this tire fill with air even though we keep pumping and pumping and pumping and pumping and pumping and pumping…

Saturday morning Steve had a dream in which he was installing a bike rack with the help of Wesley. Then Riker showed up kept saying “Righty Tighty” and pointing at stuff and then the viewscreen came on and Picard yelled, “Crusher, how many of you does it take to install a simple bicycle rack?!” And then Steve woke up.

It was just a dream, wasn’t it?

We built up this bike a while back.

Remember?

Well the owner knows what he likes and likes what he knows, and wanted another bike. Enter Boulder Bicycle.

Throw most of the parts on it from the Teesdale.

And build the Teesdale up with more pretty parts.

Too pretty to ride? No, too pretty not to ride! Road work ahead indeed.

We inherited a few too many doors with our expanded shop space.

After looking at them for 8 months we decided to move them out so someone who could actually use them could have them. We also had a bit of recycling that needed to go, so loaded up the Xtracycle, hooked up the Bikes at Work Trailer, and made for the Iowa City ReStore!

Right up to the donation doors, luckily they accepted them – but who can pass up a Porsche / Quaker State poster?

Then over to the recycle bins to unload some more.

Always rock star parking for the bikes. Got some bike hooks at a great price, and a new door, (sigh), and got to ride it all back to the shop in the pouring rain. Door to door!

We sent this super loaded Sun trike for big kids out the door last week.

And then another folder from Dahon.

Plus we have this hotrod trike for tykes just added to our used bikes.

Vroom.

A message from the Kidical Korps delivered to us in the twilight hours:
